Diamond DA-42 TDI, L360 AND NG
The Diamond DA-42 is a twin engined piston aircraft, with performance capabilities greater than that of the Diamond DA-40. The TDI version has two centurion 2.0 diesel engines with a combined 270hp meaning that the TDI can cruise at 168kts whilst only burning 12.5 gph. The NG version has two Austro AE 300 engines with 168hp each. The NG benefits from the FADEC system meaning that there are only two levers instead of the six with the l360 and TDI versions. The NG can cruise at 174kts and only burns 10.3 gph whilst in economy mode. The L360 has two Lycoming IO-360 engines each with 180hp. The L360 cruises at 162kts whilst burning 16ghp. All versions have a range slightly better than the Diamond DA-40 ranging from 700nm to over 1000nm. The Diamond DA-42 has a base price of £400000 with prices going over £600000 for a model with all the 'bells and whistles'.
The Diamond DA-42 has a useful load of around 1,180lbs, a take off distance (ground roll) of only 1,130ft and a landing distance (ground roll) of only 1,069ft making it a great tourer as well as the perfect plane for a weekend away with family or friends. The DA-42 (depending on the version) can run on Jet-A1 fuel or 100LL Avgas meaning that no matter where you go you know that the airfield will have the fuel you need. However one of the best things about the DA-42 is its amazingly low stall speed (clean) of only 68kts CAS making it great at low speed flying which is good for getting in or out of tricky airfields.
